A LIFE WELL LIVED

I tremble,
move mighty mountains—
sail seven seas by stars.

Tenderness nurtures—
new births appear,
leaves grow.

The secret of a red sky at night:
Astonishment rules.
No sleepwalking allowed.
No fear of darkness—
the splendor of life.

All else gets bogged down
in the weary old bones
of a grave-diggers lament.
